Childrens Treasures
My name is Callum Grant and I am 10 years old.. I came to Orkney in the summer holidays with my mum and dad and I had a really good time. We went to some really cool places on the main island like the ring of brodgar, skara brae and the brough of birsay. We spent ages looking in the rock pools at the brough of birsay and I found 5 hermit crabs. Then we went Hoy for a few days and stayed at the Stromabank Hotel. I made friends with Rory who lives there and he is only a few months older than me. We played on his trampoline which was fun. One day it was really sunny and we went to rackwick bay. Me and my mum paddled in the sea and my mum got soaked by a big wave which made me and my dad laugh.. Another day I walked to the Old Man of Hoy with my mum and dad. It is really tall. It started to rain when we were there and we got really cold and wet. I had forgotten my gloves but my mum had a spare pair of socks that I wore on my hands to keep warm. I have told my mum and dad that I want to go back to Hoy next year so that I can see Rory again. I think I would like to bring my kite with me because it is very windy.
I have written 2 limericks about Orkney -
The Old Man of Hoy is a stack
We got there by following the track
At 450 foot tall
I wouldn't want to fall
Without a parachute on my back
We went to the Brough of Birsay
On a sunny but windy day
We had to wait about
While the tide went out
Before we walked across the causeway
