Join Captain Maiwenn Beadle for a special talk on her experiences of the fabled Northwest Passage.

In 2022 Capt. Maiwenn Beadle became the first woman to captain a superyacht through the Northwest Passage.

She'll give an illustrated talk on behalf of the Orkney Historic Boat Society describing some of the her experiences during this momentous journey. The talk will describe her trip through the Northwest Passage as Captain of a 36m ice class tug, and some interesting connections with Orkney, Dr John Rae and Sir John Franklin. She will describe the issues and her experience of navigating in ice and the fascinating and spectacular geology, wildlife and culture that she encountered along the way.

The event will also serve as a much-needed fundraising opportunity for Orkney Historic Boat Society to support their work saving and restoring significant examples of historic Orkney traditional wooden boats.

The talk will be held in Stromness Town Hall on Thursday 25 April, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 (cash only) at the door.
