Take a trip underground at Grain Earth House during a special drop-in day at this fascinating site.

This subterranean structure was built during the Iron Age and possibly used to store food. The earth house itself is around two metres under the surface, at the end of a five-metre-long curving passageway.

It was first uncovered in the early 1800s and shards of pottery, antler and animal remains were found inside. Other excavations in the nearby area have revealed other structures, so it could have been part of a wider settlement.

Visit Grain Earth House on 17th July between 12pm and 4pm to discover more about this souterrain Iron-Age dwelling in the company of Historic Environment Scotland's rangers.
