Orkney Folk Festival
24-27 May 2018
The 36th Orkney Folk Festival will be held between the 24th and 27th of May 2018, with visiting and local artists taking to the stage for a fantastic weekend of music.
Based in Stromness, and with a number of events throughout the county, the festival will - for the 36th year in a row - welcome visitors from around the world to what is now one of Scotland’s best established folk festivals, renowned for its unrivalled mix of world class music and legendary hospitality.
Leading artists from throughout the worldwide folk community rub shoulders with local stalwarts and rising teenage stars - and equally renowned folky faces, who happen to call Orkney ‘home’ - in four days of concerts, ceilidhs, clubs, pub sessions, talks and loads more.
This year acts include Duncan Chisholm, The Once, String Sisters, Dougie MacLean, Imar, Fara, The Maes, TRIP and local favourites Saltfishforty and The Chair.
It's safe to leave the wellies and woolies at home - the festival is an indoor weekend, with over 30 events held across a number of venues. Everything in Stromness is within walking distance, but if you fancy venturing further there’s plenty to take your fancy off the beaten path. Come for one event, or come for ten - it’s up to you - but you’ll be in fine company.
Many festival-goers, from both Orkney and elsewhere, enjoy the festival and its unique atmosphere so much that they return year after year - and so tickets do tend to go pretty quickly. One of the unique traits of the festival, though, is that no artist comes in and out for just the one gig or set - everyone is at the festival for at least two or three, if not the full four, days, giving folk several opportunities to catch them in action.
