Full Day Orkney Tours travelling from Caithness

Board the Pentalina Ferry at Gills Bay and be met by your guide in St Margarets Hope. We will take you to the beautiful Italian Chapel constructed by prisoners of war during WWII. Travel across the Churchill Barriers and hear the stories of how Orkney was important in both World Wars. You will have some time to spend in Kirkwall, the largest town in Orkney and home to the St Magnus Cathedral and many charming shops and cafés . We will then leave for Standing Stones of Stenness, our first site in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, which a Unesco World Heritage site. We will pass by the Ness of Brodgar and the Ring of Brodgar before arriving at Skara Brae, a stone built settlement uncovered by a storm. Skara Brae is sited on the ground of Skaill House, the largest manor house in Orkney and you will have an opportunity to see how the Lairds lived and then have some time to visit the shop, café and museum in the visitors centre. We will leave Skara Brae and travel through the parishes of Stenness and then Orphir, where you can learn about the grand Scuttle in Scapa Flow during WWI. The coach will then take you past the site of the sinking of HMS Royal Oak before heading back through Kirkwall and St Margarets Hope for your return to the ferry.
