If you visit Orkney in August, you'll soon appreciate that farming is much more than a successful industry.

The South Ronaldsay and Burray Agricultural and Industrial Show highlights the best livestock and produce to be found over the Churchill Barriers. The show is held close to the Braeburn Care Facility on the outskirts of St Margaret's Hope and is always well attended.

As always, the best cattle, sheep, horses, goats, poultry, pets and dogs from the area will be on display, with the Champion of the Yard title usually presented around 3pm. The Industrial Show takes place in the Hope Community School.

Orkney's shows are more than a day out for the farmers. They are a huge draw for families who enjoy seeing the animals, catching up with friends, and browsing stalls selling locally produced crafts and goods. There is always fantastic food on offer and often country clothing, fundraising tents and the latest farm implements for sale too.

The smaller shows offer the chance to feel part of a community and there is always something to see and do. Make sure you don't miss out on a great day out for all the family.
