A new temporary exhibition showcasing stories of the Second World War in Orkney has been opened at Lyness in Hoy.

The temporary display in the Hoy Hotel at Lyness, a short walk from the ferry terminal, has been opened to showcase exhibits and stories of Hoy and Orkney during the Second World War. It will replace the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum while it’s closed for major redevelopment.

The exhibition will feature touch screen computers giving a 360-degree tour of the main museum buildings and site, detailing museum exhibits and stories and highlighting some of the latest research into Scapa Flow and its history.

The opening hours are:

30 June - 23 September 2018

Sunday to Friday - 10.00 - 16.00

Saturday - 10.00 - 15.00

24 September - 31 October 2018

Monday to Friday - 10.00 - 16.00

Saturday - 10.00 - 15.00

The exhibition entrance is at the rear of the building. Visitors should note that there are no public toilets at the exhibition - facilities are available at the Lyness Ferry Waiting Room.
